When you remember the past and mourn it, you allow yourself to miss the person/thing/moment you lost, or the good times you had with said things. It's not just for learning, it's for making sure you are not a selfish robot. Living in the past is trying to reinact things, and I seriously doubt anyone wants to relive that moment in time.
