Excessive Client-Sided Lag

Every time I join a public server I get client-sided lag that basically freezes my player but I can still see everything going on around me, but I can't type anything or move untill someone makes me move (D-Wand, killing me, pushing me etc.). But after I'm unfroze (Moved) it happens over and over again, about seven minutes inbetween each lag-spike.

So, is there any way I can fix this other than using IRC to tell admins on that server to D-wand me everytime that happens?

Any help is much appreciated.

This is a known issue.
There is no absolute way of preventing it, but a way you can help is to stop uploading.
This means closing programs like BitTorrent, uTorrent, Limewire, Ares Vista, and several other peer to peer programs.
