I thought cops had it to, or did that change?

The idea of fair trial is stupid.  Do you know how much of a pain in the ass that would be?  You couldn't trust players with a role as judge, so it would be up to admins, and we really don't have time for that.  However, we do have time to simply correct the damage after it has been done or prevent it with the rules, but fair trial takes too long.

Also, being a Vigilante technically is illegal.  Of course, it might be a good idea to require a dirty record for vigilante, but we had problems with the job's abilities that made it a bit imbalanced.  But if you think about it, if you're a vigilante/assassin who does their job, chances are you'll be wanted, even if you killed to help players out.

Take my assassin's guild, members were given high-value targets based on those targets' involvement in gangs, or on those targets' involvement with the law.  Carrot aside, my guild members would take out people who were known criminals, even if they weren't wanted at the time.  We would also rescue people who were being mugged or assaulted, even if the attacker wasn't wanted yet.  That's kind of the point of being a vigilante, to help citizens even if it technically isn't legal.  Thus the point of me making the guild, to reinforce that aspect of the role play.  For example, they don't just let law-abiding cops be batman, it's up to us vigilantes and assassins.

There's two types of fair trial, there's Court, and there's a more balanced system of crime. I'm talking about the second meaning. So If I was to steal an orange, I wouldn't be charged for the same amount of demerits you'd get for killing somebody. Although the metaphor was exaggerating, it's still true in this case. So if somebody accidentally harms another, he should be able to be forgiven, rather than being chased by police and pay ridiculous fines. This would not only allow a more friendly community, but would surprisingly drop the crime rate.

Oh, well the top cop job has one, too, but that was to keep them from bitching.

In case you didn't notice, pickpocketing someone of their "oranges" gives you less demerits than killing someone.

Also, think about "accidental" in a realistic sense.  We don't have any non-lethal weapons.  If you "accidentally" shot someone with your AK-47, or if you "accidentally" sunk your axe in to your neighbor's skull, it doesn't really make as much sense as if you accidentally hit a misshapen pedestrian with your car.  So really, the only place we could improve that is by making it so cars can't hurt people, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing until cops start pretending to be Clark Kent and stopping a jeep full of fleeing criminals with their bare hands.

And it wouldn't really decrease crime rate because now we just have the same level as crime, but with more people passing it off as an "accident".  Jailbaiting and stuff is a different story, but that's why we have rules.  You really can't script the game mode to detect if something was an accident or not.  On top of this, every crime doesn't make you instantly wanted, excluding murder and possibly GTA.

Not sure, it's mainly the city layout with some of the builds Diggy wanted to bring back scattered into it.
