I have it off, and I don't know how that would do anything.

You can still enter your text, he means he can't say it.
So if you were say,"Blah blah blah this server is fun"*Presses enter*
Nothing happens.*Hit's backspace*
Nothing.
That is what happens. You can still highlight your text and enter other stuff, just not send the message.
