Ehh, I feel like a handicap asking this but how do you get out of 1st person mode?

The default control for this that comes with the game is the Tab key, right above Caps Lock. You can change it in your Options menu under the Controls tab at the top (default control to open the options menu is CTRL + O for PCs, not sure what it is for Macs).
