I don't think you know what an IP is, much less what it's used for.
You have a dynamic IP, this means that it will automatically give you an IP to connect with. Why would you need to change the laptops IP address?

My IP should be 192.168.1.anynumbergoeshere but it always goes to 169 instead of 192
