Another thing along these lines that annoys me is when someone says something like "your stupid", and some random person says "irony!" just because of them using the wrong your/you're.
You know what's really grinds my gears, when people misuse the word "irony".
Irony is when a word has another meaning which causes the entire phrase its cast in to have a different meaning than that which is implied. Another form of irony is dramatic irony in which someone says something when the opposite is true (this is what confuses most people).
An oxymoron, or a phrase which the overall context and meaning are contradictory, is the term used to describe how most people come to think of irony.
