they could've done that with something that didn't ruin homestuck

with what
humans
oh come on

Caps time, if you think it's gimmicky (dumb word) then that's your point of view. Stick grey skin and horns to somebody and suddenly they're WHOA WHOA. Pretend they don't have horns or grey skin or just get over it. "Ruin" would be a term which would mean the entire franchise is doomed or dead. The trolls brought more people, who the forget cares who, to the comic thus giving it more popularity. Andrew doesn't care if people don't like it, because he's the one getting to profit. trolls do mean the entire homestuck is doomed
and it's not that they're trolls it's just the whole storyline regarding them and the quirks or whatever is dumb as all get out
also you're admitting he's just doing it for ad dollars and then continuing to defend him

most of his costs are probably bandwidth, and i'm assuming homestuck isn't his main job

You're taking this stuff too seriously. Hussie is the master of playing with your loving mind. One second you're starting to get attached to a character, the next BAM they're loving dead. He changes constantly and Homestuck moves just as fast. Get with it or GTFO.

if this is actually true i can understand keeping the trolls in to both dumb down the story and holla holla get $ but it won't stop me from thinking that trolls ruined homestuck

Alright, srs time now. Hussie introduced the trolls to add a few new characters. He tried to get as much variety on them as possible. He created literal character-types. The trolls were also somewhat filler to keep the story moving in the background. Hussie works with different perspectives and keeps things running together. Then, during a final boss, he smashes them all together in one glorious orgy of death and amazing. Honestly, if you read all the way through the troll act and didn't like a single bit, Homestuck isn't for you.

that didn't sound serious at all im sorry

It's a web comic made by Andrew Hussie. I don't think I can get any more serious.
