This sounds exactly like the road my sister is heading down. She's never at home and when she is she's barricaded in her room.
I don't think your parents are being too harsh at all, although what they're doing is probably only amplifying the problem as your sister probably doesn't feel welcome at home anymore, so spends a great deal of time at friends' houses.
Caution:
Before it wasn't much of a matter of wanting to be there; she never was anyhow. She was never here but now that my dad asked her to be home a little bit more, she completely overreacted and took it to heart and thought he was basically saying she sucked. She's a drama queen, I'll give her that. She takes everything my dad says negatively.
Whenever she is home, she's sleeping.
Speaking of which, she's not home now.
