Good programs to enhance animations?

For my next animated short, titled "AFK", I need something where I can add a chat box like thing to my video. Anyone know some good programs for movie making?

My money or lack thereof is on piracy. I won't go into any details due to the "no warez" rule..

I am surprised that the most common piracy sites (Not listing names) are not shut down. I wonder why they are still up?
