It's important because Gandhi was MLK's inspiration, as well as being responsible for creating a new nation.

Do you want to know why the Civil Rights Movement and knowing the nation of India exists are important?

My statement is based on the fact that people learn most of what they know based on movies and television. When Baywatch came out, despite the obvious jiggle factor, people actually did learn how to save lives and use CPR properly. It's not always a bad thing, but there are exceptions.
