Maybe the bible's inferring to the expansion of the sun into a red giant, which will happen in 6 billion years. All the inner planets will be engulfed by the sun at that point. Makes sense, plasma is kind of hot like fire, except electrically charged I dunno.

No it isn't :P
It's a state of matter where electrons are stripped off of the nuclei, so you have nuclei flying around in a sea of electrons, like in metals except the atoms are moving around at crazy speeds.
