He IS faking. Quit defending him. If a loving criminal was coming up his stairs and he wasn't loving hiding or trying to jump out of his window to escape, and somehow managed to knock him out with a Playstation (which I could easily deflect if I heard some idiot kid typing in his room just before I came in) then he would have been dead or incapacitated by now.
What he should have done immediately upon hearing someone in his house was to get out as quick as possible. Go to a neighbor's house call the cops and wait there. He isn't proving nothing pretending to be some hero. That gets you killed in most cases.
