I'm all against death penalty. In my view, it goes against the principle of human rights, this was the main reason it was deemed unconstitutional here, thus removed from the penal code.
The other reason is, that death penalty is an irreversible punishment, thus in case the emergence of new evidence which may prove the sentenced innocent, there would be no way of reversing it and making amends. Sending an "I'm so sorry, xoxo ~The Judge Ps.: I mean it" letter to the family is not a solution.
Seriously, most of you have no idea what power does criminal law hold. That is why it has the most carefully and elaborately designed system of guarantees.
So instead of elimination, there should be other sort of punishment. What really should be done is to utilize the able and healthy in the correction facilities to give something back to the society which they have taken from, such as creating labour camps for doing hard work, or using them for keeping the streets clean.
