There's a reason we invented government; Anarchy doesn't work, there's just too many people. We need a hierarchy to maintain some degree of order. It's like you didn't even spend 5 minutes thinking about this.
Imagine there's at least 10 people per mile², and there's 100² miles in your city. You have roughly a MILLION people. Now imagine there's no police force from stopping the 20% would-be-criminals. It would be mass chaos: Theft, murder, destruction. Haven't you ever seen Back To The Future? The population would fall just due to all the riots, killing sprees, and fighting going on. Even in areas that aren't war-torn, it's still unstable. Forget about money. Without a government, there's no regulated form of currency. There goes economics, so there's no incentive for people to produce things or work. Bartering would be reprised, but virtually useless seeing as anyone could find anything they needed anyway.
Anarchy might work if there was maybe .03 people per mile² a hundred years after a dissolved government (or the events of Fallout), but that isn't so.

Havent you noticed? In the future all countries will need to unite as one under one government. An Earth with one president, the European union is the beginning of this. Once we unite there will be no more war between our countries, and the Human race will become a stage one civilization. One economy system, this is the way we can only survive. The people who want to stay behind in their caves and beat their wives are called terrorists. These people will not exist in the coming one hundred years, or we distroy our selves in the process.
