also i9 probably won't be much dif- HOLY loving 6/12 CORES?

No its only 6 physical cores. Because of hyper threading it appears to the operating system as 12 logical cores.

6 physical cores, assuming it's a high-medium end Core i9 it'll have hyperthreading which means 6 physical cores + 6 virtual cores = 12 logical cores.
