Do I have to portfoward a modem if i have cable/DSL ?

I can't host and apparently i don't have to port foward if I have a modem. So how can i fix this problem?

Are you sure it's just a modem? It could be a router with built-in modem, most are these days.

Host a server and ask someone to check if it's dead. If it is, foward your ports.
