Firefox downloading issue

I'm having a problem downloading things on Firefox. The majority of links I click to download don't work when I click on them. I have to right-click and open the link in a new tab for it to work. Is there a way to fix this? No, I am not going to change browsers, nor do I want you to try and convince me to do so.
