No Port Forwarding with Modem?

Pages: (1/2) > >>

MYST:

I was on blockland and my friend was saying that my server is dead and stuff, (what a shock my server is dead).

And then we got into this discussion and they were like,

Friend: Do you have a cord coming out of your computer?

Me: Yes

Friend: Then you don't need to port forward.

And i was all confused and stuff,
And they said it was a modem and stuff and I dont need to port forward.
And that really threw me off...

Is this really true?

Cody574:

If your internet comes through a router, you need to port forward no matter what connection you have.

MYST:

I think my port forwarding is broken, Cause when I put in my default user and pass for that one thing, It just sits there for ever..... And nothing happens.

Kalphiter:

Modems usually do not require port forwarding.
You should still get a router.

This is an ethernet cord

An ethernet cord should be leading out of your computer. Follow the cord until you find a device.
If another ethernet cord comes out the other side, then you have a router.
If it's a cord that screws on to the device, then you have a modem.

Cody574:

That wouldn't be your "port forwarding," that would be a problem with your router.

What router is it and what user/pass are you using.
