Very few enemies in this game have a shield. I never use it in PvP. |

Do the side quest for the time machine. loving every knight uses shields. Plus with their heavy armor you're going to need a pierce weapon. |

If you hit the knights with the hammer directly, it does damage without causing a shockwave. Though, at that point, I prefer to use my Impact Blaster. Armor shatter effects are awesome. |
