Well, i got caught up in Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. There could be 32x32 RailRoad tracks and when you get inside the train, there can be like controls you activate like Whistle, switch from Track to Track on a turn, Speed going Backward, stop, slow and fast. This could be useful in a lot of ways.

Here is a picture of the train, behind Link and Zelda/Phantom.

I don't need a reason other than it's a stupid idea.
I'd rather have a plain old train.

What you want Kobe is the rainroad add-on to be created. I believe it is in progress, must be hard though.

Then have variants in the trains. For excample, the add-on comes with the normal train. An edit on that would be the 'Spirit Train'.

What if those 32x32 plates contained pre-made railway sections? Like 45� or 90� curves, switches, and so on?

Yes, that will be good too, i can maybe get a model of a train and edit it to make it look like this.
