Someone said you can plug directly in to the modem, in lue of port forwarding?

But cable, just don't use a router. ANd tada, no ports to worry about

Dsl modems are built in with a router. And you may not have a choice.

But cable, if you really can't figure out forwarding, just unplug the damn thing and run that single ethernet cord from the moden directly to your comp.
