In WW2 the Marines who were landing onto Iwo Jima were the first to touchdown. They were the first clear out the islands that were used as Japanese forts. And they were the first who were sent to hot spots you cannot send a normal Army jockey into simply because their training does not live up to it.
Marines in groups of 10-20 held off hundreds of Japanese banzai charges.
The Military channel, the History channel, my history books that have documents on all of the wars ever recorded on Earth.
Back to WW2, when the Marines cleared out the islands the Army came in with their later weaponry, and safety gear just to fight off the already wounded Japanese soldiers that were beaten down by the Marines and left alive.
Even today the Marines are sent into hot spots first because their training lives up to the combat. The Marines are the Spartans in the modern age, a Marine will not give up, nor let down his orders. He will fight to the death like they were trained and prepared to through boot camp.
Each special force you may name only lives up to what they do best, air, ground, water, what ever. A Marine is trained to do all of those.
There is no doubt through world studies the Marines are the most powerful military branch, and are the special ground forces used up to this date.
I don't give a flying forget with you fancy pants suites, and new technology. The Marine is a designed death machine for combat, the rifle is his tool, and the Marine is the weapon!
