Maybe the first and second slot will be:

Tier 1
then you can upgrade to
tier 2A
tier 1A

2A isn't necessarily better than 2, and same can be said for 1
They're basically another set of tier 2's, not tier 2.5
A for Alternative, basically
I have a question for Bushido.
If I were to set up classes as follows, would it still be balanced?
Slot 1: Tier 2/2A
Slot 2: Tier 1/1A
Slot 3: Tier Explosives 2
Slot 4: Tier Explosives 1
Slot 5: Tier Melee
Assume any slot can take any weapon in the stated tiers. Anyone who can answer is acceptable, but I want to hear from the stately rhino himself.
What do you mean by having one tier 2 gun and another tier 1 gun?
Sounds a bit odd... AKA: I use riot shotgun and then if I need to, use my modern shotgun
I see where you're going with the idea, but it seems a bit odd
Also; if you use ammo piles, explosive 2 users will enjoy fresh 10 rockets/14 nades
And then spam delicious explosives all over the map
If you're going to do so, make explosive 2 ammo generally hard to find, but it may be better to make special classes w/o good guns with bullets and then give them explosive 2.
E-2 is what I think is overall better than E-1 in my opinion, not considering the re-usable factor
Edit: In what I said, E-1 = Hand Grenades, E-2 = Launchers
