Author Topic: I'm never going to call someone a Badmin again...  (Read 2865 times)

My bans are instant, but for one hour. If you get warned, you will be banned perma if you do again.
Wow, the longest I've banned anyone was for 15 minutes.

I try to be a nice host, when people come in and say, "omg I like your add-ons Dalek" I respond with a thank you instead of ignoring or banning them.

I don't ban people for stupid reasons. And if I ban someone for a joke, I unban them again right away. But you try host a server with 25+ people and not get annoyed by the constant 'how i do x and y and z' when I always state these things and how to do them CLEARLY on the entrace message AND in game. It's never failed to amuse me that there are still people who are actually able to not notice this.

i ban people for not building as well.
just starfishs hopping about not doing anything for half an hour piss me off,

This to me has always been a badmin, as far as the not building well thing. That just seems completely nonproductive. "I'm banning the person for not building well, because that clearly makes the situation better." No. It makes the person upset, it makes them not want to build out of fear of being banned for it, it makes your server a bit more empty. Not every single person will build as well as you, and if you can't handle that, then you don't seem very cut out for making servers on Blockland. :|

Now, if they don't do anything but talk and drive around vehicles/shoot people, THEN they get warned and then banned. But I remember being really pissed off as a noob, when I couldn't manage to do anything on a server without being banned, and I wouldn't even get an explanation as to why I was being banned except for something like "STFU NOOB" (Which I didn't even know what STFU or NOOB meant.)

I feel like if I'm going to make a server, I need to learn to deal with the general community and certain people's incompetence to a certain degree. And if they need to be banned, they at least need to know why.

Back when Blockland was in v1 or v2, I tried to be polite to everyone and was frustrated every time I left my computer. I learned its a whole lot easier to just post rules that are impossible to "not see" (like people claim) and then kick for first offense, and ban for the next. You don't notice how stupid and ignorant some people can be if you're a calm person joining a server and actually reading rules.

For example, if I entered a random server hosted by someone I don't know, I wouldn't waltz up to them and pink them, and then spawn a 1x1 and spawn a gun on it, then leave the server. When I go to servers, I make a 1x1, check and see if there are interesting weapons, and then break my 1x1. It's not hard at all, and it helps out the admin running that server.

I think if a group of forum users got together and made a small map with events and script, we could make a "Online/Multiplayer tutorial" using bots and things to add as another tutorial to Blockland; Which would be fantastic. What Blockland users like in the incoming members, and things that should be avoided online. AND, if done correctly, and Baddy approved, there could be less dramas on these here forums. Not saying it's for sure, but it's a small possibility

Every ban is a permaban. :D
If I need get banning, this is pretty much the only way. People I ban are people that come back after being kicked, calling me a friend and and starfish, because they were spamming rocket events pointed at my house. Those are always permas.

Bots don't hold gruges, bots don't pick favorites, bots are fair, bots are the ideal admins.
This is one of my down-flaws as an admin. I have friends that I let be douchebags too often to others. But some of my friends are friends I've had since the beginning and mean more to me.  Oh darnet, I'm human.

Ignore the fact that this was a terrible format and I changed subjects a lot :D

I think he meant he bans people who don't build at all, not who don't build well.

I sometimes kick people if they make me feel uncomfortable, like a guy who didn't speak english well and was saying stuff I didn't know. I told him sorry after.

Personally, I don't seem to have had the occurances that you seem to have.
I don't believe I've banned anyone at all. (Not including an Auto-Admin of mine who was leaving as I was shutting down, and that was only for a joke.)
I've only had to kick one person in total (For continuously shouting Lag), since I started hosting (The day after V14 was released).

It's might just be that I've been lucky so far, but I've not had any annoying players.
No-one has complained about what I do in the server so far at all. Heck, when people start lagging or crash due to lag, then alert me of it, I apologise. I can't helpy myself but say sorry that they're lagging.

If anything, my server hasn't made me see too much stress and difficulty towards hosting and maintaining a server. My server manages to keep in order with little moderation. I generally only have to give a few warnings in total when someone starts to become a nuisance. And even then, they're only generally an annoyance because they've missed something or don't understand something, so they're quickly reminded and taught what they need to know.

If someone doesn't feel like following the rules I've laid out for them, they're no good in my server. First offense is usually a permanent ban.

well what i do is that if they need help i dont just ignore them and ban them i help them if i can if i cant i ask people on the server but if that person starts to keep repeating himself over and over again saying like "SABERTOOTH HALP ME PLZ I REALLY NEED HALP"then i tell him to stop shouting and if he stops i wont kick him.

But if he doent stop give him a "kick" in the butt. Now if someone is spamming i ban him for a few minutes so he gets the idea and if he comes back and continues to spam i ban him for like 2 hours. Also NEVER ignore someone who needs help and they follow your rules because they need rewards and if the bad people might get influenced by that and act like him.

Oh god its you again.

I usually have a lot of younger players in my server. When they build things, I wait for them to leave then I clear it. I dislike how admin ban people because of age, or criticize the way people type. Players of all ages should be able to equally enjoy the game.

I have been hosting since V13, and I have developed a system for kicking, banning, and generally running the server.

The name
I normally have the name of the build, followed by a dash and what that is. An example being: "Adventure! - Medieval RPG"

The rules
I normally have no rule other than "Do not get in anyone's way" when I am building something that can't be interacted with yet, and during the "Playing" phase I have the rules bottom print when you join the (defaulted) minigame.

Kicking & Banning
1st offense: Warning or kick, depending severity.
2. Kick or 5 minute ban, depending on severity.
3. 5 minute or 10 minute ban, depending on severity.
I heighten the time until 30, where you will continue getting 30 minute bans if you break the rules.
Although, extreme rule breakage results in a permanent ban.

I hope that helped anyone who needs a good way to run a server. :D

I'm strict, I generally do delete bad builds, but I would only every kick for bad builds and a "bad build" to me is a 1x1x5 box houses with no windows. And bans are usually for trolling, flaming or generally stuffting on rules, and for perma's it has to be personal.
