It can be forced supported.

it still won't allow you to join others servers, It just notifies others what you're playing, which Steam can do as well.

The more faces your card has to render at the defined quality level will create lag.
A lot of moving objects/stuff going on will also cause lag, same with emitters, basically, the more work you make your computer do, the more lag there will be.

Steam can't be used to join servers in non-Steam games.

Thats why xFire was invented.

But Xfire also doesn't support blockland, so in this case, Steam > Xfire.

No, it IS an instant messenger type of thing.
Except you can call people, at no cost if I recall correctly, this is what we used to call Badspot's parents.. uh oops, I mean.. well, I didn't call them anyway, some other guy did, and that same guy called me also.
Ventrilo is for use with more people, like a group all at once, and is more useful than Skype at times.
