Where did all of these places come from? Was Hasbro like "Hey, have a list of ever place ever in the MLP universe" or something?

Where's the closest thing to USA? I think it might be that unlabeled continent below Vaporia or the area of Heliopolis

I'm fairly certain that most of the locations are fan-made, but I could be wrong.

Taking all of the pun names for the cities/towns into consideration, Equestria is most likely the closest thing to the US.

We're at WAR! The Aetheria empire is TL24, in the ST.ANDREWS SECTOR, and has set our empire to enemy after i stole a pirate ship in their sector.... our allies are coming to back us up but this is a deadly close threat to afgu!

Are you sure this isn't another pirate empire? They don't show up on the standings list yet they're TL24.

TL25 due to resource limitations, but we have the technology to create TL32 ships.

The episode you are referring to is probably the second part of the premiere.
