Hey there. We're going to release a music pack on the 30th for people to get.
Also, we'll probably make our server open to the public around noon on the 31st.

General Discussion / Actual New Year's 2018 --- 117 players
« on: December 21, 2017, 05:10:00 PM »

This year the main pair from last year's celebration, DrenDran and Momentum, along with some help from the original host of New Years, Kalphiter, have put together this years New Year's celebration. This year we are hoping to make a more gamemode and event focused experience. With a combination of persistent whole night long games as well as some planned events and tournaments. In this vein we've tried to cut down on the extraneous meme content that was such a facet of previous years and focused on what is truly important to the Blockland New Years experience. Finally, we've got a better handle of the music for this year. Rather than having ~200 loops many of which will not be used, we now less than a hundred tracks. We have a new music system which can play music both looping and non-looping and handle longer music tracks without a music brick. Our music selection is slightly less focused on techno and meme content, while including some more classical holiday and new years tracks.

The server has a roles system which divides people into Hosts, Admins, and VIPs. Hosts have white admin orbs, admins green admin orbs, and vips red admin orbs. Hosts and admins are somewhat self-explanatory but VIP is a special role that includes access to /find and /spy commands as well as the ability to admin orb and send formatted chat messages. VIP can be granted upon request by Momentum or DrenDran or won automatically through many of our scheduled events.

Whole-night games:
  • Tower-top knife deathmatch --- Get teleported to the top of the towers and you can travel between towers to stab people with a knife. Fall of the towers and you automatically die. Kill 8 different people in one life and get VIP.
  • Prize brick hunt --- You'll be able to turn off a bar at the bottom of your screen that turns red when near a prize brick, and blue when further away. At any given time there will be 10 flashing bricks somewhere in the build that you can click on to get some sort of prize. Prizes may be cosmetic or in rare cases, grenades or other useful items.
  • Pass the cocaine --- Sometimes a random person will give you cocaine and you have to pass it to someone else. If the time runs out when you have it, you'll be teleported to prison for a short time.
  • Prison break --- People can escape from prison or try and catch those who try and escape.
  • Soccer
  • Cinema --- Be sure to get the .dll if you want to watch movies with us.
  • Cyber farming --- ???

Special events:
  • Mini-racing --- Get turned into mini cars on a mini track in the city and try and race to the finish.
  • Boxing tournament --- From last year, sign ups will be available long before hand and people will be matched off in pairs until a winner emerges. They will win VIP.
  • Pacer test --- From last year, whoever lasts the longest will be granted VIP.
  • (Team) deathmatch --- The stage is replaced by a skyscraper which will have its own fully contained (T)DM you will be able to join and leave at will.

If you win in one of our scheduled events, free VIP will be awarded!
  • ??? --- Server is opened, preload and pre-party begins
  • 3:00 --- Preload ends, gates open
  • 3:30 --- Team deathmatch build loaded
  • 4:30 --- Mini-racing tournament begins
  • 5:30 (or race end) --- Boxing tournament begins
  • 6:30 (or boxing end) --- Pacer test begin
  • 7:00 --- European celebration
  • 8:00 --- Prison break
  • 9:00 --- Deathmatch build loaded
  • 10:00 --- Pacer test second round
  • 11:00 -- Boxing tournament second round
  • 11:45 --- Gamemodes close for main celebration
  • 12:00 --- Main celebration
  • 12:15 --- Normal activities resume
  • 1:00 --- Central time celebration
  • 2:00 --- Mountain time celebration
  • 3:00 --- Pacific coast celebration
All times are in Eastern Standard Time.

This is a graph of the pings until midnight.

I'm still going to post a graph of chat activity, a log of everything kompressor and badspot did, and probably extend the players chart until 4am and repost.
Also, 1112 unique BL_IDs have joined since we opened the server yesterday.

Server crashed and I'm about done trying to rehost. None of these crashes have any console output and probably weren't related to any scripts or add-ons we had. Hell, it probably wasn't even related to playercount for many of the crashes.

Anyway, here's this:
Code: [Select]
[00:32:09] Badspot (0) joined.
[00:33:21] Badspot (0) left.
[00:33:26] Badspot (0) joined.
[00:34:00] Badspot: c;
[00:35:28] Badspot: You guys are like regular blockheads.
[00:35:36] Badspot: And I like that.
[00:47:09] Badspot: I have 350 more things to download
[00:58:52] Badspot: 220
[01:00:27] Badspot (0) joined.
[01:02:55] Badspot: 200 more files
[01:03:39] Badspot: i haven't joined the server yet
[01:06:52] Badspot: oh is that a dab emote?
[01:06:59] Badspot: poor design having the arms line up
[01:07:14] Badspot: looks like a penguin holding a rocket launcher
[01:08:50] Badspot: The block rendering engine would require complete restructuring to advance further
[01:08:59] Badspot: and it's just not motivating in the age of so many block games
[01:09:38] Badspot: The "engine" myth is a result of marketing
[01:10:04] Badspot: There is no engine that would do what blockland needs to do
[01:12:45] Badspot: < 100
[01:15:21] Badspot: I'm kind of done with pax
[01:15:49] Badspot: It's expensive and a lot of work to show a game there
[01:15:59] Badspot: as far as attending, i'm not really a fan boy for video games
[01:16:24] Badspot: if i was going to show a game at pax, I'd probably walk around with a laptop stand to show people
[01:16:31] Badspot: instead of spending like $2k on a booth
01/01/17 01:17:29 Badspot spawned for the first time

Charts for ping, playercount, and average chat over time will be posted when I wake up.

well that was trash (in a good way)

thanks for all the giggles, open boxing matches, spicy italians, and hasselhoff towers. i wish you all a rad 2017
Yeah, it was a glorious clusterforget!
its real easy to fake that you guys
I promise that's real.

10
to anyone spamming chat: Year really asking for it! bu dum tss
That was glorious though. 5 Minutes where 100 people had vip.

11
It wasn't their faults. Most of the admins that were on the server were made into VIP's because Dren thought there was "too many admins". We were stuck with it. As for the "How do I get VIP?" stuff, everybody on the team thought it was annoying as forget when people started asking it before the server started, so we made it a joke to where we said people "could" get VIP when you really can't.
Yeah I ended up making a ton of people admins.
I regret being so stingy with admin.

12
I made a bunch of other trusted players admin. Hopefully they can cut down on spam.
I also forgot Momentum changed the server's title, that's fixed.

Anyway, I hope we'll get another uptick of players before midnight.

13
Just going to point this out: They're probably enjoying it because they can spam on it all they want.
In all seriousness, the clusterforget is a part of the fun. When else do you get to see 160 other people together. The chat was never going to be coherent, that's a foregone conclusion. It's the same appeal that livestream chats have.
I mean, Tezuni's jail escape repeatedly topped the server list. McDonald's is the most popular fast food chain in the US. DrenDran would apparently consider McDonalds to be the most high-quality restaurant in the whole US.
Is Tezuni's actually that bad? I just assumed that was a meme. As for McDonald's, it has a value in the sense that it's cheap. Food that's good tasting and that cheap is important to some.

14
I came back after a bit and I'd suggest New Years 2017 go to a new democratically elected host. After seeing the lever of RDM'ing this might as well be hosted by Tezuni. DrenDran pretending he doesn't care and discarding other people's concerns about his server really cements him as a terrible host. I can't describe how pissed I'd be if I spent a year working on this thing only for Dren to treat it like this.
It's not that I don't care. It's that I base my idea of quality of the amount of players enjoying the server. Not the opinions of the two people that post paragraphs in this thread. I had zero loving idea that Trog or McJob were upset, they told me nothing. Now we're talking and I'm happy to let them take control.

15
I bet you had fun by treating your staff like stuff

by "us" you mean yourself (not including myself)

lol what kind of fun is breaking a number
I really thought you were being ironic before.
But apparently you're serious.
For everyone's information Nal literally had no part in this year's server and is not an admin.
The server still has over 100 players mate, even after 5 hours. These people have chosen to stay despite some actual issues.

Numbers don't reflect quality, and having the ability to jump in, poach the administrator position and then subdue the rest of the team that had the best intentions of making this an amazing event probably wouldn't bother you.

Since you love numbers; notice how the amount of admins got smaller as stuff started to pick up? What happened buddy, worried people could have made the server actually tolerable?
Wow, didn't realize you guys were actually upset about this stuff. You never expressed anything to me.
