you're really not going to quit yelling that everywhere are you.
It was a wrong allegation where people would get angry with kalph, which is not fair.

But I also don't understand why he was working on a new years server instead of solving the problems of his own servers...

Looks like he took them all down so he could host his party server.
Wrong, the server was hosted by ATF.

Kalphiter i didn't bought your Host but i have seen that Demian's Server crashed and was having the Ping: 40.003 or more.

this is omg? i heard this would be good i was thinking on paying but after i heard that the servers crash sometime i will give up Renting your Dedicated Hosting Service.
It's not that easy to setup a unix OS and run a windows vm on it. I think Kalph will find a solution.
@Kalph: maybe VirtualBox (if you use it) is limited and causes problems.

If this is real that this Hosting is not more as an normal Blockland Server. and you are getting Money for it then you will get in big problems. I don't say that your Host isn't fast i think it is fast but i think you have problems with your connection.
I joined some of "his" servers and the server IPs were from hetzner (the datacenter). there are websites where you can check IPs. ... Warground was faster ;)

I was wondering why this Hosting just costs 15,00$ dollars for the first month and for all other months 10,00$. other Dedicated Hosting Service's costs 299,99$ Dollar's or 199$ but every Dedicated Hosting Service i found on internet costs over 30$ Dollar's and 100$ dollars is the correct price for an Dedicated Hosting Service.
Stop wondering yourself and check the prices on the web. In Germany it is that cheap. It's funny you don't know that.

Now to all: Instead of renting an Dedicated Hosting Service you could buy:

Windows Server 2008 or you can get an PC with very good Processor ( example is: Intel core i3,i5,i7, i7extreme ). my friend is an nerd and he have one of these good computers. but he don't play blockland he plays much time on runescape private servers or host some.

Oh and sorry if my Grammar isn't perfect i am German thats why i am bad in english.
His server has an i7 processor and 8gb RAM. And he has an 100mbit UPLOAD and download connection with no disconnect! Now tell me where you get such a connection at home.

I see. I'm fine with that. I can trust you.
There are 2 opportunities:
- Kalph sets up the server using his key and you change it yourself in game (with an addon to write in the console).
- You send him your key.
First opportunitiy is safer.

@drendran
kalph told us the hardware of the server, you never mentioned it. cpu? ram? link to hoster?

We have the same hardware configuration like in the link mentioned (49€ server, link on the 1st page) for our ATF clan server.
Kalphs bl dedicated server needed around 800mb RAM and 3-5% CPU usage, with almost 50 people playing on it. You guys can calculate yourself how many people, distributed on several blockland servers, the whole server can run (+ OS). You usually host more servers with more slots, because all servers won't be full at the same time.

We use our server to host a 512 Slot Teamspeak server (Teamspeak = voice communication software), some FTPs (to up-, download and store files), 4 Modern Warfare 1 servers and 3 blockland servers (Quality town, passworded medieval building server, Kalphs server).
--> Server hardware usage: ~14% CPU and 4gb RAM. ~20 people were playing on the different game servers, when i checked the usage.
You can also host homepages on the server, the connection is strong. Some of our partner clans do that on their servers.
This are just the 'basic' servers, we start more game servers when we need them, like ArmA2, Crysis, GTA:SA MP, ... servers. That's the advantage you wouldn't have, if you rent a dedicated game server hosted in a data center instead of a whole 'computer' hosted in a data center. So the plan of heedicalking, to buy a whole 'computer' (server) in a data center makes you all more flexible. You can host what you want.

@Heedicalking:
-You need people who can pay you the money monthly and in time, which is usually the case, when you have a permanent income. 50€ + 15€ (Windows) = 65€/ month (~88$) is a lot of money!
-They need computer knowledge/skills. They have to work with FTP tools and should know how to edit a config file. You configure everything in the config files or in the console, because it's a server and there is no graphics card to run a game.
-You need a structure, like how many servers everybody is allowed to start, which ports they use, etc...

We do not propose making money with that. That would be too much work and could get problems with the terms of blockland. Oh wait, there are no terms, lol. But it's not that easy to get a server:

Flaw got a server from us because we liked his project. He has a team and a nice script / gamemode. They know how to code, how to build and how to do graphical stuff.
We support good ideas to make this game better. On most servers is just spam and crap, sorry.

Our servers start all with the same name, in each game we play. For example if you look for ModernWarfare1 servers you will find us, too. That's common practice in all online games, because usually a whole clan hosts/rents a server.
http://www.gametracker.com/search/
As you can see, most servers in online games start with a clan tag or a clan website.

Before you guys start spamming this thread with requests: No, you can't have a server. First, we can't host hundreds of servers and second, we have enough bl friends who also want to have one.

@kalph: I think the people who help paying will get the same access opportunities like heedicalking himself. For example via Remote Desktop...

For clans (communities) xfire is really handy. When you join a clan in xfire (after you got accepted) you get all the members in a separate list (so you don't have to add all the people from your clan).

You can also manage your members (roster) as admin and put them in groups (give them rights). You have your own clan site with news, a calender (for events, trains), a forum, server favorites, info about your clan, your clan screens & vids, your clan logo, ...
You can add clan games so it counts the hours of all members playing the games. And you can find other clans /players playing the same game, too.

You can use the messenger during playing, so you could start a chat room just with your mates.

When you upload new screens, add a new friend, etc. your friends see that (like in facebook) on xfire.com.

Suggestions & Requests / Re: The 128k Bricklimit and how to get rid of it.
« on: February 16, 2010, 03:14:02 AM »
If lots of people are hitting the limit it could be raised. It requires recompiling the game, so it can't be done from script.
Well lots of people just build their family RPs with max. 10000 bricks. They dont care. But for him and me it's a drastic limitation and we can't start / finish the projects we wanted to do. I think there are also other people with the same problem.

Warground's builds do use lots of small bricks, but they are pretty. Maybe try using some bigger bricks so you can use your 128k budget better.
I know him as a person who takes the compromise between brick-saving and good-looking. It's not just the mansion itself (it will never hit the 128k including a full detailed interior), it is to create also some things around it and start projects with small landscapes.
We started the public server Bac's Town V2 ("ATFclan.eu's Town V2 by BAC") again (last time it was online during the time BAC released the Plate2 map). It is to show you that we don't build spam.
A bigger problem with the limit we will get with the non public rpg project. With a crew of 6-8 skilled guys we started it. Now we have 70000 bricks (a spawn level and some unordered stuff).

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7828/blockland00009se.png
The complete rest of the "world" isn't finished (we won't build all the stuff at one place) and how should that work with under 130k bricks.
Does the castle in pic 00008 looks like its builded prodigal?

There will always be a limit, even if we go to 20 bits or more. Eventually you will run out of memory or other stuff.
Maybe you should get warned when you build too much bricks or something. Or you raise the hardcoded limit and set it in the config where everyone can change it with the message that it's your own risk.
Is there a way to stream the bricks or does the memory gets cleared when you go far away from the bricks?

I'm also asking myself why people post here that the limit is fine, who never builded more than 10 bricks just to spawn some weapons to shoot their brains out of their head.
