Games / Mutant Factions now has FLAMETHROWERS!!
« on: October 11, 2014, 05:59:42 PM »
Hey guys, I wanted to update this thread but I wasn't able to do it due to it being too old, but I just released an awesome new version of Mutant Factions and wanted to share! Version 1.04 has got.... drum roll please... FLAMETHROWERS!!!

The flamethrower has been requested from quite a few Blockland users who have joined the Mutant Factions community over the years and it is finally here! We also have a Molotov roostertail and a Flare Gun too. Three new weapons ready and waiting to be mastered. All three weapons possess the unique property of fire damage, which deals damage over time, reveals enemies, and sets vehicles on fire!

Check out this awesome gif of the Flamethrower and Molotov roostertail in action: http://i.imgur.com/INQsQ1Z.gifv

This version also introduces a very important gameplay tweak which is that enemies are now briefly revealed to you when you damage them. This means you can reveal enemies through walls with AOE skills like Radiate, use Spike Trap as a radar as people cross over it, or track players with damage over time weapons like the Flare Gun. Lots of fun new tactics to explore :D

We also have some very lovey graphical improvements with dynamic lighting. The loveiest of them all? Vehicle headlights! The headlights will dynamically light up the map and really add a sense of depth to the game. It also makes it easier to drive in dark areas! We also have better looking explosions, muzzle flashes and projectiles like the Flare Gun that light up the map as they fly though it.

Anyway I hope you guys enjoy the new version. It's been great fun developing the Flamethrower and other new weapons and I would love to see some of you guys come back for a game or two to check it all out and maybe give me a little feedback! In case you've forgotten you can download Mutant Factions for free at: http://mutantfactions.net

Have fun!

Btw I just released a new version taking some of the feedback from in here. I've added a brightness slider to the game as lots of people were saying that the game was too dark. I've also made the super weapons cheaper and more accessible to increase weapon diversity along with the usual balance and bug fixing. Check it out :D

Yee haw, just got promoted to MG2. Only took 300+ hours :/

Just updated the main post a bit with pictures of zombies, as this is the newest feature added to the game. Already played a few games of Outbreak with Blockland peeps so far and noticed people using "Blockland" as their clan tag :D Represent!

You're most welcome. Thanks for the games today DaSord! Hope you had fun :D

Hey again!

Some of you may remember this small indie game called Subvein - we played it together way back in 2009 and again in 2010 and had a blast. Well I'm here to let you know that the game has now been renamed to Mutant Factions and was officially finished last week :D

Over the four years since we last played there have been countless improvements made to the game and many of them have come directly from feedback provided in this very forum! We also now have zombies!! As the developer of the game I can say that your feedback was very valuable, so thank you. Anyway the game is still free, only 28MB to download and more fun than ever before, so come check it out!

NEW VIDEO
Check out the newest video showing off some of the cool new features here. Since we last played you will notice that the game now has an account system, vehicles, zombie coop, ranked servers, lovey graphics and more!

ABOUT THE GAME
Mutant Factions is a top-down multiplayer shooter with guns, skills and vehicles. Imagine the top-down view of GTA2, mixed with the intense online action of Counter Strike, mixed with the strategic character building and skill system of Diablo. Basically I've merged all my favorite childhood games into one :p

Mutant Factions is online, 100% free, and only 28MB so you can start playing in minutes. Everyone here should get the hang of it quickly because the controls are fairly similar to Blockland.. WASD to move, Space to jump, Y to chat, Mouse to shoot, etc.. You join a server and start off fresh at level 10. You press B to buy your gun, V to buy a vehicle and then get to killing people! As you kill people you'll gain experience and mutate, which allows you to invest skill points. You simply press N to open the skill selection screen and you're presented with a wide range of skills to choose from. Invisibility, Bullet Time, Self Repair, Venom Shot, Blade Fury.. the list goes on. As of v1.0 there are a total of 33 skills in the game and over 30 uniquely balanced weapons and vehicles. You choose your skills and the cycle continues, pwning noobs all the way.

Mutant Factions has a number of  classic game modes like FFA, Team Deathmatch and Capture The Flag, along with newer and more unique game modes such as Outbreak - where everyone plays cooperatively to slaughter and survive against waves of zombies! The game also includes a built in map editor for the more creative players (eg, almost everyone who plays Blockland), and ranked servers for more competitive players.

ZOMBIES
There have been plenty of changes over the past 4 years but the biggest and most recent feature is the new Outbreak game mode. Outbreak introduces a PvE element to the game which is very different to the usual PvP action you're used to. Here you can play in 3 mini-modes: Coop, Survival or Versus. Coop is the most played mode and has everyone play together on the scientsts team. The goal of the game is to kill zombies, collect their souls and then return them to this thing called "the bomb". Returning souls gives you more XP and helps activate the bomb, and blows the bad guys away. The best thing about Outbreak in my opinion is that all of the skills suddenly take on brand new meaning. Whereas the Spike Trap skill is used mostly as an area denial in PvP combat, it suddnely become a huge damage dealer in Outbreak if you throw it into a chokepoint somewhere. Watch the mindless zombies walk into your spikes and get slashed to pieces! Force Fields goes from a mostly defensive skill in PvP to a massive AOE explosion that can kill hundreds of zombies at once when the Force Fields explode. All the skills have double meanings now and are good fun to explore in this new context. Anyway come check it out :D

SCREENSHOTS

Surviving the zombie swarm! Outbreak is the new coop zombie killing mode. Great for practicing your skills and working as a team!

Here you can see I'm using a skill called Bullet Time. You guessed it, it slows your bullets down.. matrix style. Quite a good defensive skill as it prevents enemy bullets from hitting you. What it doesn't slow down however is the Plasma Ball I'm also firing at my enemy. Bit of a cool combo as I can hit him but he can't hit me!!

In this picture we see that a roadblock of vehicles has just been detonated. Blowing up one car will cause other cars next to them to blow up, so you get cool chain reactions like this. This is perfect for the Outbreak zombie mode as you can create barricades with vehicles to keep the zombies at bay, then detonate them and kill them all at once!

In this picture we are playing the Checkpoint (racing) game mode, and can see that a Hornet was chasing my Roadster and fired off a stinger missile to hit me. But I dodged it. No big deal.

Go team! In this picture the Rebels (purple) have stormed the Scientists' (yellow) base with the Flatbed Truck. Players can buy vehicles and have teammates hop in and do drive-by shootings. You even get special armor and accuracy buffs when shooting from a vehicle. Just watch out for Bazookas though..

Anyway, that should do it. Go check it out if you think you might like this, and if you were one of the hundreds of players who liked the game back in 2009 you'll love the game now that it's finished (hopefully!). So download it now. It is a free 28MB download, so you'll be playing in minutes!

Get it here: http://mutantfactions.net

Have Fun!
Ben.

I am so pumped for Skyrim. 11/11/11, what a cool date. Basically Skyrim will take up all of my November, and then it's either back to BF3 or SC2 until Diablo 3 comes out ;)

Overall.. despite the few glitches here and there I've gotta say that BF3 has been a LOT of fun. Bit hard to snipe on such a small map, but I'm sure it'll be amazing when it comes out.

Games / Wanna play Subvein again?
« on: September 30, 2011, 12:36:56 PM »
Hey all!

Was just playing Subvein with some fellow Blocklanders and they suggested I come make another post here. Maybe try and organise a game or 2 ;)  The last time we all played was in this thread and that was AGES ago. I wanted to just bump it but it was too old. Anyway the game has improved significantly since we last played, the main cool new addition being GTA2 style vehicles. But there's also been a massive skills overhaul, menu and HUD rework, new game modes, a lovey new particle system, improved netcode, and even a permanent account system to save your skill points to! Holy moly!

Here is a new gameplay video showing off the vehicle madness.

And here are a few quick piccies showing off the new vehicles and graphics:

lovey smoke and rain effects!

Bazookas are very effective vs vehicles.

Here we have a Hornet firing stinger missiles at some newby mercenary :p

Anyway, the game is still free and more fun than ever, and only 20MB to download. I know many people here had a blast last time we played so how about we try organize a couple games over the weekend? Hope to see you all again in the servers :)

You can download the game here.
Enjoy!!

Sorry all. I've finnnnnnnally got it all back up and running again. Word of advice if you ever want to start your own website: don't go with justhost. Urgh!

Sebster, you should have over 100 skill tokens which will allow you to reallocate your skills with ease. There's a new button in v0.63 called "Reallocate Entire Mutant". Just click that and confirm and you'll be able to respec your entire character.

Now that the servers are back up Wedge we can test your server again. Just let us know when to join ;)

Yup, the site is still down. I'm not too happy with my web host right now... trying to fix it asap.

Oh sorry Ryuu, I didn't see that first post. Dropshock is right, I can't tell you what your password is because it uses 1 way encryption. But what I CAN tell you (and this applies to you too Snackbar) is that your game account is the same as your forum account. So you can simply go to the forums at http://subvein.net/forum/ and on the login page click the "forgot password" link. Just type in your email and it should send you your details. Hope that works :)

Cheers for hosting the server Wedge. I was probably asleep so couldn't test it myself, but is it possible that no one joined because your ports aren't forwarded? You need to forward your ports to host. Of course it's possible that everyone just went to a different server. It would be cool to see how many BL players we can get at once though.

And thx Miga, I"m glad you like it :D

Yup. I'll be doing AI when I do zombies, cause they're kinda related. I reckon it'd be cool if you could issue commands to the gangsters based on your respect level. Defend this position, attack that player, etc..

New version is out and blades have been nerfed. Seems good so far, but time will tell :)

That's a great idea Devvy, cheers. Lots of people seem to be struggling with port forwarding so that sorta thing helps heaps.
