General Discussion / Re: How did you found out about blockland?
« on: April 14, 2016, 05:55:05 PM »
I had pretty much run myself dry on toontown (connection kept being dropped on the huge boss fights, made me rage) and was looking for a new game to play. Remembered an ad for roblox and decided to try it out. Found out roblox didn't work on mac so I googled "roblox for mac", and came across blockland.

Got the game and got stuck inside a brick at one point and I remember restarting the game because I didn't know that control+K (or in my case command+K) would kill you.
Second early memory is building a base and a mall on the slopes and keeping my computer on for 3 days until I learned about the escape menu. Was really my first "true" PC gaming game - before then it was all flash games or arrow key games.

This was all back in like, 2008 or 2009. Good times.

I play mostly only on one server with a password nowadays

Just another reason forced shaders should be a serverside option.

a single sound file of someone screaming that alternates between too loud and too quiet to actually be used for anything useful

Saying offensive things often will get a rise or reaction out of people, and then you have a chain reaction and mob mentality.

More replies doesn't necessarily mean better.

This guy seems like the "you cringe you lose" thread attempted to make the powerpuff girls with whatever was within arms reach.

As far as I know all the default music in the game is royalty free or came in a little royalty free disk. Likely doesn't have ties to Blockland.

General Discussion / Re: Building a Tech store

have you ever been to a tech store

I work in one. Granted we're a service/repair shop, but of all the places I've been in recently there's typically a specialty behind the store - i.e., refurbished, apple, microsoft, accessories, etc.

Might be different in smaller cities where there's less competition.

Seems odd that you'd have both apple and microsoft products in the same store unless the idea is for it to be a refurbished tech store. That might even be more viable to have new and old models of computers.

You might even be able to separate the stores up to have a "SmallSoft" and "SmallSoft Games", with the latter having game related items (nintendo, sega, sony, microsoft brand-inspired game systems). Again, the refurbished systems would make more sense to have a wide variety of them in different brand names.

That is if you're trying to make something realistic. If you just want to shove all things computer related into a shop that's alright too. Might be worth it to have a few smartphones on a "touch display".

Drama / Re: Nickpb- Super Admin Mute Abuse on Tezuni's Prison Escape

You also made fun of me while i was muted. Regardless, i appreciate that you did that, but i really don't think it would've been worth a perma.

From context given it sounds like Nick was saying he would perma ban Crit for making fun of you, not perma ban you if he kept making fun of you. Sounds like a good admin - if you make people on the server uncomfortable by chatting then revoking the chat ability makes the server better. As long as you aren't having a negative gameplay experience (i.e., strategizing with your team) then there should be zero issue here.

in my opinion, I think that the audio needs to be done first before the video
this is so then people can do lipsyncs much better without guessing

Seconded. Much easier to do a video when you've got the audio ready. Never know when someone's going to do an amazing freestyle, or mess up slightly and recover in such a way that it would make for some great visual comedy.

Wow.

I sort of just lurk drama when I need to lose hope in humanity and kill time, but this thread made me sad enough to post.

Maybe i was in the wrong at one point, but I don't currently think that, and in order to change my mind, you're going to have to make a convincing argument instead of just telling me 'you're wrong' and insisting that i change my mind.

Okay, here we go:

Argument 1: Servers have rules.
Argument 2: Admins have rules.
Argument 3: Admins enforce rules.

So in theory, an individual server's admins could enforce a personal rule that is not explicitly stated on the server. Server rules usually act as a sort of "don't do this or you'll be banned" due to players doing such things. If a server doesn't have a "rules" add-on, it is up to the player to use common sense and avoid saying or doing anything that could be considered "annoying", "offensive", or "destructive". If you do not know what the limits are per admins on the server, it is up to you to ask them. A good admin will be happy to tell you how they run the server.

If you break a rule you didn't know existed, you should not be punished by administration - they should give you a warning, and you should stop yourself from breaking that rule in the future. If you continue to break said rule, then administration has every reason to remove you from their server, as you are now a problem.

Here's a scenario:

You join a server. The server rules are "Don't spam, don't insult other players, have fun!". You start talking with the players on the server, and swear at some point in your conversation. An admin on the server says "Don't swear". You ask "why not?". The admin replies "I don't like it when people swear on my server."

Now you have a few options. The first option is A) obey the admin's wishes and just don't swear, or B) disobey the admin's wishes and swear.

You choose the first option, you play on the server, have fun, make friends or enemies, and leave. Plain and simple.
You choose the second option, you get banned from the server.

While you may not find the words you said offensive, the admin does not want that language on their server. If they make it explicitly clear anywhere, and make it a point to you specifically that they don't like those words, then it is entirely your fault when they take action when you break their rules.

Just like how rules vary from server to server, people will vary with their breaking points in reaction to specific words, insults, and actions. For the most part all of these things can be grouped up.

TL;DR: use common sense.

should we start sending in our parts?
i'm a little confused to what's going on atm

Looks like the OP got updated. Should we just send voice and video clips via PM or something?

General Discussion / Re: I'm making an RP server. Help?
« on: March 12, 2016, 01:41:11 PM »
Having a gameplay objective is a fair thing to work with. However, either you need to have an overarching objective with suspense and tension (x amounts of days until event y happens), or have various roles on the server, and have yourself or other admins play as various villains.

Villain characters in a role play should have high health, have rather advanced operations, and have elaborate traps/settings/environments meant to create problems for the other roleplayers. Because of the nature of the role, admins would be best suited for it, especially with an add-on that hides the "observer" message so they can spy on players and play a more devious role.
You have to trust that these people would not abuse anything, and you could have villains that are non-admin, but it will be harder to pull off villain tropes, such as being everywhere at once (teleporting), and knowing too much (spying on other players).

Suspense and tension events should be set up beforehand, but pretty much have an "on/off" switch that any admin can pull. These all need to be set up beforehand. Examples of events are: alien invasion, days until military arrives for extraction, time until flood, time until volcano erupts, etc.

Suggestions & Requests / Re: Charge attacks
« on: March 11, 2016, 07:54:44 PM »
I figured they've been done several times as the idea is pretty common.

I guess what I'm asking for is a small pack of various weapons that all share this feature. Individual weapons are fine and all, but then there's differences in their functionality. The examples I put in the OP are essentially what I'm looking for to start with, but in the long run can be changed up to be more original instead of being themed off base game weapons.

Suggestions & Requests / Charge attacks
« on: March 11, 2016, 07:10:20 PM »
This probably would work best on a weapon itself, but it might work best as a combination between weapons and a specialized playertype, like the magician playertype using magic weapons.

Now onto the actual idea: charge attacks. Weapons with charge attacks would do two things: click once, the weapon attacks. If the mouse button is held down, you will begin "charging" your weapon. After a few seconds delay, you can release your mouse button and unleash a powerful attack. Potentially used through the "energy" bar.

Think of it like a spear sword combo, but unique per weapon.

Some weapon examples could be:
  - wider swinging sword that fires a projectile on charge
  - gun that shoots a more powerful bullet on charge. Bigger and more damage behind it
  - rocket launcher that shoots a tank shell on charge
  - bow that fires 10 arrows in a wide pattern on charge
  - spear that can affect a long but narrow range in front of the player. Still throws the spear on charge
