Off Topic / Pope Francis to release prog-rock album
« on: September 25, 2015, 11:48:25 PM »
From Rolling Stone:
Quote
As Pope Francis embarks on his historic visit to the United States, His Holiness will spread his message of hope, faith and unity in the form of a prog-rock-infused album titled Wake Up! this November. The Vatican-approved LP, a collaboration with Believe Digital, features the Pontiff delivering sacred hymns and excerpts of his most moving speeches in multiple languages paired with uplifting musical accompaniment ranging from pop-rock to Gregorian chant. Wake Up! arrives November 27th, with the iTunes pre-order now available with an instant download of "Wake Up! Go! Go! Forward!," which Rolling Stone is proud to premiere.
Pope-rock is now my favorite music genre.

"is depression normal"
Google

The top 50 results all say yes in thier own long winded way.
Pick the ones you like.

You are handicapped for even thinking otherwise.
The symptoms of a depressed person and severity thereof can vary greatly. It literally says this in the first article that comes up when you google "is depression normal":
"Depression presents differently in every individual, in terms of its origins, the types of symptoms experienced, and the frequency and duration of those symptoms."

What's handicapped is believing depression always has the same symptoms/severity and the only difference between sufferers is how they cope with it.

EDIT:
I dont get why its so shocking to a few of you. You think you are supposed to be happy and feel hopeful and safe and accomplished at all times?

If we couldnt worry about things or be sad about events, then our minds would be unable to learn, and we would be unable to act and react properly to anything in life.

Its normal. Those who make a proper effort are rewarded with happiness later on. Thats the balance.
While pill poppers trying to cheat the system are forever in that slump lol.
Depression is not the same thing as normal sadness. In addition, nobody here argued that it was wrong to feel sad or "down" sometimes, only that being depressed doesn't make you a wimp. Not only did you misrepresent an opposing argument, you misunderstood what clinical depression actually is.

This is an excellent quote.

I'm not sure what's so confusing about this. Is an illness that affects somebody's mind instead of only their body a particularly difficult thing to comprehend? If depressed people are just whining pussies, are bedridden cancer patients worthless bums that need to just shut up about it and die already? Is it possible that people like Refticus and Bisjac are willfully ignorant of what depression actually is just as an excuse to be an starfish to somebody else?

I'd rather get rid of somebody who's done actual harm than an innocent person whose only crime is making money off unfunny content. Maybe a few people that advocate pseudosciences like homeopathy or whatever.

They were clearly looting craft stores to make all those flags, they had it coming.

Because it does lol. There is a definite hierarchy in living things, and trying to say that animals aren't below humans is incredibly stupid and simpleminded. This is pretty much as close to objective as an opinion can be.
Valuing an animal's life doesn't mean you're putting animals on the same level as humans wtf lol
In this case it just means you think having a cow around is cooler than having a hamburger.

And that's being an idiot. It's not an animal. It's food. Not to mention just how incredibly silly and misguided it is to put livestock above yourself.
If eating meat makes you feel bad and those negative emotions outweigh the pleasure of eating meat, not eating meat is the logical decision. I completely agree that Zealot is being silly, but can you not be a friend to people that aren't bothering anyone?
*At this point I'm obviously referring to vegetarians that are bothered by the idea of eating meat but don't necessarily consider it morally wrong

also, that's a bad brown townogy.
My intent was to liken a particularly sympathetic animal lover eating meat to something else unnecessary and unpleasant. Do excuse me, it wasn't the best brown townogy.

Misguided egocentric views on agriculture and arguably modern industry as a whole are a pretty good way to identify an idiot.
Often a person will avoid eating meat simply because they have a soft spot for animals. That doesn't mean they have "misguided egocentric views on agriculture and arguably modern industry as a whole" or that they're an idiot. It just means they avoid doing things that bother them. Similar to why a normal person wouldn't put their hand on a hot stove or talk to you. no angry pls was joke
