Game Modes / Forest Zombie-Survival

Here's a gamemode I procrastinated on releasing for a long time, all because there were two things I never was arsed to finish.
You can view features here.
The Trello page has been edited for a new gamemode.
Basic list of features:
- Kill zombies.
- Buy guns in a store.
Fancy sounds, custom guns, custom zombie mod, etc. etc.


The released version does not include the upgrading base because it was never fully implemented to a stable state.

This also contains a lot of edited add-ons, as well as an old version of Slayer which is needed to run this. Which means, you'll be better off just moving your current add-ons folder to a new location, making a new one, and placing all the files in the provided .zip in there for the time being. It contains everything necessary.

If there are any glitches or if something doesn't work how you think it's meant to, send a reply to the thread.
( By the way, once you start the game, if the signs don't show up by themselves, just restart the mini-game. )

I encourage you to look through the files and see how things are done. You may also rip out sounds and use them however you'd like. etc. etc.

Also too lazy to give all credit but just know that the Forest was built by F1sh and the mall was from Sumz city.

General Discussion / Ideas for a DayZ-esque server?

Once I've finished my first project that I'm almost done packaging into a gamemode, I want to move on to a more apocalyptic style server.
What I do know and can confirm for definite is that it's going to take place on a large, open-world map, will be during the winter, and will feature gameplay similar to DayZ without the zombies. The problem is that.. what is the gameplay going to be around?

Two ideas I currently have are:
Player VS Player emphasis
  • Weaponry is to be used against other players.
  • Everything is difficult to find.
  • Bodies can be looted, encouraging PVP.
  • 'Rare' to 'common' items can be found, encouraging PVP against stronger players.
Players working together
  • Weaponry is very discourged to be used against other players. Maybe for hunting.
  • PROBABLY going to make it more of a 'survival with other players' gamemode instead of a 'survival against players' gamemode.
  • ROUTE TWO (will not combine above and below ideas)
  • Quest system implemented, make it more of an RPG.
  • ( dunno how I would give incentive to get better items (what would better items be used for?) )

Bottom line is: What would you enjoy seeing in an open-world, winter, forest, survival game, that focuses on the management of food, possibly heat, and maybe even the protection of yourself against other players ( if i should include it at all? )

Help / Some add-on is loving up onDeath and I need help finding it.

I forgeted up somewhere in my adventure.

Some add-on is loving up the onDeath function, so every time a player dies, they lose control of everything. Once the player's body poofs, the screen freezes and, say they get the mouse on the screen, it spams the screen with a bajillion different mouses.

Since I seem to have to reset my game every single time I try to disable a single add-on to find it (if I don't reset, it'll continue it's effects even in the next server I host. tested theory, playing w/ 100% default addons does the same effect unless i reset.), does anybody know a quicker way to find it?

Ambient Sounds
another witty thing about the update here

What does it do?
Creates an audioemitter that plays a select few .wav loops that spans a fair distance.
This is to be used for, you guessed it, ambience.

I can't download and take a look into the files, what does it all have?
  • city
  • forest
  • windy
  • night
  • underground

How do I use this beautiful thing?
/setambience (ambient file name from the above list)
Additionally, typing /setambience without anything next to it, or typing /setambience (none/stop) will stop the audio.

What if the filesizes are too big?!??! What can I ever do?!?!
If your server already houses a plethura of add-ons that already mean a good 10 hour long wait, you can simply comment out the datablocks, as well as something else in the script.

Here's what we got so far.

FANCY FEATURES
  • ability to temperarily' rent a room (looking into making everything reset when the player leaves, apparently the events i did doesn't actually do that with other players)
  • you can lock the door and change the color of the walls in the room you own
  • sfx fancy
  • all content will be released when done, or near done

FANCY FEATURES THAT WE DONT HAVE YET
  • only the first floor's rooms work, need other floors
  • more things to customize rooms with, and a saving system can be implemented (more furniture can be purchased, idk)
  • mini-gamemodes (atv races, lasertag/actual dm in a mockup version of the apartment)
  • points earned from gamemodes to be spent on trails, hats, room stuff, player lights, possibly player tags, etc.

Simple question to discuss.

Should the content of projects that end up being abandoned be released to the public to use how they wish?



I personally think that it really depends on the project. In almost all cases, I think the build should be released, but in some, the code should as well.
This is for projects that are definitely dead and will most likely never be revived.

My school decided to stay open today. This is bad because the city only plowed the streets what.. like, once, in last night's blizzard? Furthermore, there are ~no~ sidewalks. Snow goes waist high. Meaning, kids who walk would need to walk in the streets. That's unsafe as forget, obviously. To top that, cars'll be sliding everywhere.
Wtf school. :(
