The spyglass and binoculars are, basically, a prop by any other name.  However, when the player zooms in with them equipped (by pressing the assigned zoom button), it has a binocular/spyglass HUD.  Also, if possible, it would show the distance to wherever the player is looking.

This would ideally be paired with a toggleZoom script, where the binoculars/spyglass are the only things that allow players to zoom.  Weapons could also be scripted to allow zooming if this script is enabled.

Intresting, yet when you press 'F', how far exactly does it zoom in? Divide the number of times your range advances until the farthest you could look to get how many times each click of the scroll wheel magnifies.

With the spyglass, it's only a 2x or 3x zoom, but with the binoculars you could pick.  Also, only the binoculars would have the distance stuff going on, idea being that they're hi-tech.

Well the point here is that when zooming is disabled you need the binoculars/spyglass/zoom enabled weapon in order to zoom.

You can't force client-sided stuff to not work.

The best you could do is have the server automatically kick anyone who doesn't have the clientside mod to stop them from zooming.

Of course, it would be obnoxiously easy to hack.
