Yes, Dragonica is kinda like Maplestory.
I would recommend Outspart FIESTA Online, or Dragons and Dungeons. (Don't know if they can hold in a 56K Modem.)

If you want a simple mmorpg which isn't particularly massive, try Endless Online...It's like Runescape (which you have said no to...), but different

No current MMORPG can play well unless you want to try Ragnarok Online's Valyrie Server, that's the only game I know that I played during my 56k days.
