I installed Spore on my PC, and went to download the newest patch, and the download manager wouldn't let me do anything! On the Mac it was an instant download from the game loader itself, but neither that nor a download from the EADM started ever. I eventually got a standalone executable for installing the update, but why would EA make us download this terrible program if it won't let you download updates?
