http://www.quakelive.com/Quake LIVE is an MMO-Shooter with futuristic weapons, a bunch of game modes, different characters, which you can play in your browser. It's created by iDgames, who have created games like DOOM, Wolfenstein, and of course, Quake.
Like I said, it's playable in your browser, without any downloading necessary (besides a very small plug-in). It's very fast-paced, and plays without any lag AT ALL on my (extremely slow) computer.
There are no health-lag issues what-so-ever, and when you die, it's your fault, since the controls are completely customizable (Including mouse sensitivity, inverting, etc.), and very accurate.
The skill level servers are balanced in a very good manner. Before you get into gameplay, you have to do a skill test, which is just a small group of tests which will look at your skill and knowledge you have in FPS games (Rocket jumps, strafe jumps, etc.). It can be a little off, since you can get into the expert section fairly easy if you know what you're doing. But for the most part, it's accurate. And if all else fails, you can just choose the difficulty you'd prefer.
The servers are loaded with friendly people, and the developers have already organized some tournaments, which are pretty cool. It has very cool modes, like the basic free-for-all, CTF, TDM, Clan arena (Where you get thrown into a TDM with one life where the last team standing gets points), Duels (AKA 1v1), and more. The game is completely free, besides the optional monthly fee, which pretty much just removes the ads, gives more game modes, etc.
