Author Topic: Voicechat. Hear (read?) me out.  (Read 946 times)

Okay, I've seen other topics for this and these are the main complaints.
-Little 9 year olds screaming into the mic
-People complaing and asking questions
-(if you have more tell me)
I think we could add things to keep this from happening
-The option to mute
-And, why not just put no mic spamming in the welcome message or something?
-The option to be able to hear/use voicechat.

I want to make people on mah server listen to mah awesome deaf metals!

People don't seem to understand the concept of the mute button. Someone is just gonna post "9 year olds screaming in the mics" like they don't even know what mute is. It is a great idea, but people are to stupid to understand it.

It would still be annoying. Chat messages are simple and more controlled, not to mention it's just overall better. And anywho, you'll have to mute a bunch of people at one point. If someone's just blaring music in the background, mute 'em? Then mute someone when their mother tells them to clean their room repeatedly? And ban the spammer, and ban the guy making a gratuitous excess of cusses? And how are we to censor it for the soccer-moms who are afraid their little darling child hearing someone say something inappropriate? Will their be a mic sent to you when you buy Blockland, will those who have it already have to drive to Badspot's house to get them? Will their be a Blockland approved mic, or just everyone buying their own? What happens when there are twenty or more players, all trying to get heard by screaming? Then there's the problem of team chat for deathmatches and voice commands and whatnot.

There's a stuffload of problems, and a stuffload of work. It's not as simple or enjoyable as it might sound. Teamspeak is fine, but that's where it should end.

Impossible with Torque.

With all those possible problems, it's better to have it opt-in ("Get TeamSpeak and use this channel") rather than an opt-out thing. ("Deal with it or go through the long process of muting everybody")

Impossible with Torque.
VOIP is possible in anything. Just need some engine edits.

Impossible with Torque.

Voice chat is implemented into the torque engine by default.

Far as I know it got ripped out when they were moving from Tribes.
