Hey folks, I really like the STALKER series, and will be referring to Shadow of Chernobyl. If any of you have heard of Ironman challenges, then you can skip this introduction.
Ironman challenges are for diehard fans of games where the highest difficulty level isn't quite difficult enough. It is the highest difficulty level, along with several voluntary handicaps. It is done both to make the game more difficult, and in this situation, more realistic. Torchlight may be the most famous example of a game with an Ironman challenge, and damn is it hard. Anyway, here's a rough sketch of an Ironman challenge I came up with for STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Ironman challenge.
- Weight limit lowered to 25kg: Suits do not affect carrying weight, you are not allowed to move if carrying more than 25Kkg
- One primary, one sidearm, four grenades: Carrying limits for equipment.
- No explosive weapons: The six barreled grenade launcher and RPG are disallowed. Grenades and mounted grenade launchers are OK.
- Artifacts can only be used: Artifacts may not be sold.
- Highest game allowed difficulties: Master difficulty, no displayed crosshair, no NPC identification/target identification, etc.
- No side quests: No optional side quests are allowed. This includes the Arena. Nonessential story missions (i.e. helping the Dutyer in your first visit to Dark Valley) are allowed.
- Vanilla SoC: This may be the hardest part of the challenge for some.
Anyone feeling up to it? Changes, suggestions, comments?
