You do realize they only had limited space on the disc.
Again, limited discspace.

Haha. Not good enough, considering they went as far as a dual-layered disk that required many Wii's to be shipped to Nintendo to get an upgrade.

Characters could have been replaced, and coding could have been rewrote.
Such things would have kept it at relatively the same size.

Or, you know, they could have not created the copypaste characters in the first place and had much more space!

I haven't played Online Play since I first got the game, I don't fully remember. So I'll leave it at that.

Nintendo was relentlessly pressured and rushed by fans, and they had to make do. When the fans whined, Nintendo told them it's the fans' fault.

Wii games are designed to fill at least 95% of the disk space.
