Hahaha, no.

just get your good ol' research files and...

Well of course. This needs plot.

Take your old computer, install a command line equivalent to sandboxie, remove network connections, run floppy.

Store away the floppy disk never to be seen again.
Untill today in time, that is.
(Start it over but in our time now with new computers)

So you're suggesting we go forward in time to a place in time where our hero will have to waste time loving around trying to find a floppy disk drive?

Yes, but don't make him take a long time to find one.
I was also thinking that Jerry would still be mad at him and then Jerry starts to go threw the internet.

I was also thinking that Jerry would still be mad at him and then Jerry starts to go threw the internet.
This is exactly why I had him unplug the networking cables.
And also, how would Jerry remain conscious while trapped in a floppy disk?

Put in the new floppy disk, but for the love of god disable 'live frequency changing' first, either in the BIOS or via jumpers/switches on the motherboard (depending on what kind of system you have).

Give the floppy to your boss and say it's a silly word-matching game.
