Installing a steam game from files from another computer

Alright is it possible to take the files from my computer and plop them into someone elses steam folder so they don't have to download the game again?

I swear I did this before but I can't get TF2 to run without downloading on my brothers computer.

Figured it out, there are .gcf files in steamapps you need to take those and plop them over in the other peoples folder along with the files in steamapps/username/.
