Author Topic: Win7 music library transfer to external drive; help needed!  (Read 632 times)

My brother has a win7 laptop and an external drive. What he wants to do is get all the music off his computer and onto the external drive in a readable format, so he can tell Windows Media Center to look for the music files on the external drive.

I've looked around and can't find any solutions, does anyone here have a solution for this?

Let me know if you need more detail.

Copy/Paste

Once the music is on the external drive, how do we tell windows media center to look for the music there so we don't have to open it manually?

I'm fairly sure Windows Media Center has an option for it, under the settings panel. But it's been a while since I've used it.

EDIT: I know I used to be able to get stuff off any other computer on the network or an xbox, surely it's related to that.

Scan for files or something like that.

I'm pretty sure if you add it to the Windows Media Player library, it will be added to Media Center.

Yes, but can you put the media player library on the external drive?

Okay, there's a new problem now.

We got the music onto the drive, but now in the media player there are duplicates of songs, and the duplicates don't go away. You can delete them, but they pop back. And album art is missing. Anybody else seen this before?
