No gimmicks. In addition to a mini-map, there is a map of time, or a timeline. You can go back in time and change your orders while 'time waves' propegate the changes. Paradoxes work by oscillating between the two possibilities until one falls off the timeline. In addition to changing orders, you can also send units back in time. You can play in fast forward while your enemy plays in slow-mo, and your ally is paused to give more precise commands to his units.

Looks pretty cool.
I'm confsed about how you could send units back in time, it would make sense for a single player campaign, but how could you alter the timeline of a multiplayer match.

There are videos explaining it on the website. Again, the timewaves propagate changes.
