I loved Age of Empires II. It was just a good game.

Also Rise of Nations is a good game. It has more variety and they took the time to make each nation's unit look different and authentic. The economics system is good and the Thrones and Patriots expansion makes it 100 times better.

Also The Command and Conquer series up until EA bought it was good. I haven't played Red Alert 3 but I've played all of them up to Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars.

But yea those are the games I'd recommend.
