Author Topic: I need reasons why you shouldn't be able to buy power.  (Read 2406 times)

I really like LoL's pay model. The main source of player power in the game is in the form of Masteries, which all players must play to unlock. Everything else it the game (minus skins) can be earned after playing for a while.  While you can technically "buy" power (runes that give your champions permanent buffs), that same power can be earned by players who've earned enough in-game currency, buying with real money only gets you it faster. Champions are the same way, where any player can unlock them with in-game currency, however, players that can purchase those champions with real money to unlock them faster.

I think players should only donate if they like the server.
They shouldn't have to donate to like the server at all.

They are probably getting some plugin wich lets your character use a block as a hat, an give it to players wich donated. They won't even have to donate much at all, just donate any amount of money.

Is this a good idea? I'm unsure if they should have to donate a certian amount. (around $5?)

Aesthetic rewards for payment are always a good option as long as they don't give the player an advantage. At that point, it's more of a prestige thing, showing that you're somehow better than players even though you really aren't. There are tons of examples of this in games. If you buy Halo ODST and finish the Vidmaster challenges, you get the recon helmet, which is just a coveted status icon. In TF2, buying the game/item allows you to trade, which doesn't effect the average player's ability to play the game but increases your enjoyment. In LoL, you can buy skins which allow you to look awesome, but it doesn't give you any sort of advantage other than the cool factor.

whether it's F2P or not, being able to buy authority in the game isn't how things should work

Runes also cannot be purchased with real money (RP).

I personally think games should just stop using the F2P scheme. I'd rather pay for the game and play equally with everyone, rather than play it for free, face overpowered opponents, and hackers who can just make more accounts for free.

How many players attend?
On average? Right now we have 82.

But we've had over 12k unique users.

Ok thank you guys you've saved the server from total failure.

Costs?

Well I know this might be late but $210 for 64 GBs of RAM, 3 TB hard drive plus like 256 GB SSD. Somewhere around 100 MB/s Ethernet port.

It's super overkill but it allows us to host more than 2 servers 100+ people on each with breathing room.
