By saying "don't like it as much" he's comparing VII to some other game. Given that he mentioned that X is his favorite in the sentence before it, I'd say he's comparing the two.

You can't use him as an example due to his "unbiased, nostolgia free" views about VII when bias about X is one reason why he doesn't like VII as much as other people might. X is relevant.
