People's Artist of Russia, Eduard Khil, more famous to the Western audience as Mr. Trololo, has died on Monday night. In April the artist suffered a stroke and was taken to hospital. Since that time Khil's condition remained critical. Khil, 77, died in Petersburg on Monday night.
Eduard Khil was born in 1934. He was a very famous singer in USSR.

In 2010 he suddenly became popular in the West after he sang a of a 1966 wordless song "Ya ochen rad, ved' nakonets vozvrashayus domoy" ("I am very glad, because I am finally going back home"-transl.). It became a true sensation and the Western audience started calling him "Trololo Man" as the song consisted of "la la la" vocalizations.

In March 2010 the YouTube video of Mr. Trololo was vieed by 2 mln Internet users and hundreds of people created parodies on him. Many tried to gather signatures to organize U.S. tours, fans even created websites devoted to him.

Khil, at that time an almost forgotten pensioner, treated such popularity very calmly – he suggested everyone to write words to the song and promised to sing it and post the video on YouTube.

Khil's name was trending worldwide on Twitter shortly after the announcement about his death.
