I need a new antivirus program because avast is paranoid

So apparently everything on Steam is malware since about a minute ago. The only way to play games is to disable avast, then turn it on again. There's a "false alarm" button but it forces you to send a report confirming that the program is NOT a virus, after which you'll have to wait until they "investigate".

What should I get?

I thought Malwarebytes was just for scanning for malware and deleting it? Does it detect and block dangerous files like avast does?

What does the trial consist of? For 30 dollars I'd rather stick to avast.
