Author Topic: Third Person camera modification to FPS only?  (Read 853 times)

Just like Over-Shoulder Playertype has it's camera position modified, can there be a third-person only playertype that has the camera in the head? That would bug the stuff out of crouch maybe, but also see the shoes, force crosshair off and see the handle on the weapon.

If there was a crosshair, too it would make it easier to play TPS

You got it all wrong.

Use TPS camera position modification to make the camera in the head, so it looks FPS. Then limit to that camera-view only so you can see the hand on the handle and no crosshair.

I can't really understand this, but from what I'm seeing, I'm guessing it's like making the 3rd person camera face the player's head in alignment with the crosshair?

Yeah, I want this.

not possible; the third person camera orbits around the player object with the specific distance, it doesn't follow any nodes

no rotation works fine:

however, when I look down:

I tried this by adding renderfirstperson = true; to a player type but as port said because the camera stays still you can see your back when you look down

I tried this a while ago when I was working on making first person spectating but it doesn't work.

I've tried this before, but the problem is the camera rotates around the player's hip or something. Like Port mentioned, when you look down the camera goes through the back. It would have been a really cool way to see your feet, hands and body in "first-person" but sadly it just doesn't work.

The camera doesn't move with the head because then you'd be able to see through walls.

The eyepoint remains where the head would be if you were looking straight, and only rotates rather than moving with the head.
When you crouch, it moves straight down, which is where the pants are.

It could be done with a custom look.dsq animation that maybe only moves the head, arms and hands/hooks. Since the camera is inside the head, it won't try to render the head for you.

Maybe someone could make a player type with different animations? I think there's a thread on changing the animations...

It could be made by making the player tilt it's neck to look down instead of the pants

To fix the crouch and looking up/down problem, you could make the neck bend and make the legs more into a realistic crouching position, ie. one foot is forward and the other is backwards pointing downward.
